I'm very new to HDR just trying to work my own style out.I would like to ask why my processed hdr-s are so grainy?I like them as they are but sometimes I would like to have some cleaner one as I see some guys have some real beauties. My questions might sounds silly Embarassed in that case I do apologize my only excuse is that I'm only learning. Thanks a lot.P.S. I'm using Photomatix.

Hi - There is a thread on the home page of how to upload images; If you're still having problems, lemme know and I'll help you out.

I have a feeling that the noise could be coming from over processing, but I could be wrong. What program are you using? In Photomatix, there is a micro tab. If you have the micro contrast tab too high and the smoothing too low, sometimes you get that problem...

Melanie, thanks very much for your advice with the tone mapping set up I tried the sliders as you said and works fine.... Hurray thanks Melanie!!! Is there any particular set up for those sliders? What is your preference?Until I don't create my own style (still long time) at least I should listen to the clever's advice. Thanks a lot.

If you look about 1/2 way down this tutorial:

Photomatix Tutorial

You will find this person's "default" settings. I often begin with these settings as a baseline and then move the sliders to my preference for each different photo.

Another option I use is: Once I generate an HDR and open the tone-mapping window, I click on the DEFAULT button at the bottom left and then adjust the sliders to my preference.

Hope this helps a little. Smile

Some very general tips for those "problem" effects in Photomatix.

Noise Reduction:
Lower the Luminosity
Lower the Strength
Raise the Black Point
In the Color tab, Lower the Shadows Saturation for color noise
Under the S/H tab, Raise the Shadows Smoothing and Shadows Clipping

Lowering Grain
Lower the Strength
Lower the Luminosity
Raise Microsmoothing
Lower Microcontrast

Just a thought. Hope it helps.
